One Young Mother's Story
The Birthing of a Dream
7th Dream Helping Hearts was born from founder Shaniqua Hopkins’ own experience growing up in foster care and becoming pregnant at 15.
Having spent much of her childhood in the foster-care system, Shaniqua understands what it feels like to navigate life without the stability, guidance, and sense of belonging every young person deserves. When she became a young mother, she faced the uncertainty of trying to navigate pregnancy and parenting while searching for the resources and support she needed to build a different future for herself and her child.
She also remembers the people and experiences that showed her what was possible when someone was willing to encourage a young mother, invest in her future, create a safe space for her, and remind her that her dreams still mattered.
Those experiences became the foundation and vision for 7th Dream Helping Hearts.
Today, what began with one foster youth and young mother’s story has grown into a community committed to helping young parents and families access the support, relationships, opportunities, and sense of belonging that can change the trajectory of a life.
